Tabitha Ivan loves Lincoln
Tabitha Ivan escorted by retiring Vice Principal Cameron Neal

Story of the Day

I kept waffling between reading from my prepared speech and just winging it.  I am happy to report that I have no memory of my time on stage, so, ultimately, it did not matter.  Score!

Unfortunately, my mother captured it all on video, so my future dates and children will all be very entertained some day.

You can read my speech here: Blah blah blah

A lot of students at Lincoln did not realize that our beloved Vice Principal Cameron Neal is retiring this year.  He seems young for someone who supervises teenagers all day.  Anyway, I decided he should be my escort.  He said No.  I said Yes.  He said No.  So I got Principal Chapman to make him do it.  He said Tabitha! in that tone of voice that makes you glad you can outrun him.  Then later he said "That wasn't so bad."

Abby's Closet Private Event

Tabitha Ivan at Abby's Private Event
Tabitha Ivan finds the dress...but the yellow is like butter

Story of the Day

All court finalists are invited to pick out a free formal dress at Abby's Closet.  The event is always fun because you get to meet the other candidates from all over Portland and you get to try on beautiful clothes.

I had a hard time choosing between the pink and the blue dresses.  Ultimately, I went with the dress my Mom calls "Kate Middleton in color".  Also, it was Abby's favorite dress.  Abby always has a favorite dress that seems weird for the first hour you see it. Then, suddenly, you realize that it is the perfect dress.

However, I plan on rushing to Abby's Prom Dress Event and getting the pink one later!!!!

Rose Court Judgement Day

Finalists Marie Taylor, Cecelia Martin, Tabitha Ivan and Christina Flores wait to meet the judging panel

The Story of the Day

The finalists are posted

Valentines Day 2015.  This morning all candidates came in and answered the question, "What makes your school wonderfully unique?"  And we did so in one minute.  This was hard for me, because there is so much about Lincoln that is unique and special to me.

From that speech, and our applications, biographies and letters of recommendation, the Court Finalists were chosen.  Then, we all returned in the afternoon for the second round of judging.  We had 3 minutes to give a speech on the theme of Bloomin' Good Time.  Following that, the panel of  7 judges each asked us a question.  We were supposed to use the opportunity to sound intelligent and cultured.  Pfew.

Somehow I ended up quoting Austin Powers' Dr. Evil (with accent) and suggesting I can't drive properly.

Judges scores account for 50% of each finalist's total points.  School voting accounts for the other half.  The girl with the most points wins the crown.  A girl can be the judges last choice, but win if she carries her school by a landslide.  However, if a girl is the judges first choice, she doesn't need to be first in her school.  None of this explains why I described hitting a pothole that felt like a pedestrian.
